Dr. Sulfaro has integrated into his practice the most advanced, leading-edge technology available today. "Our technologically advanced equipment and procedures, like CEREC, help us to provide the absolute best dental care for our patients," says Dr. Sulfaro. Sulfaro Family Dentistry is one of the most up-to-date dental practices in the area.
» CEREC
CEREC is a dental restoration product that Dr. Sulfaro uses to produce a ceramic dental restoration using a variety of computer assisted technologies, including 3D photography and CAD/CAM. The restoration of a tooth can be performed in a single sitting. The cavity preparation is first photographed and stored as a 3D digital model and proprietary software is then used to approximate the restoration shape using biogeneric comparisons to surrounding teeth. Dr. Sulfaro then refines that model using 3D CAD software. When the model is complete, a milling machine carves the restoration out of a ceramic block. When complete, the restoration is bonded to the tooth using a resin. CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.

All patient records are recorded digitally in our EagleSoft dental records management computer software. Your complete diagnostic information, planned treatment, and ongoing treatment are readily available to be viewed by both you, Dr. Sulfaro, and his staff. The initial periodontal evaluation, and each subsequent evaluation are also recorded, so that a full periodontal history is maintained for you. This includes gum and bone level, pockets, sensitive or bleeding sites, and sites to monitor.» Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays are an innovation which greatly reduces your exposure to radiation from X-rays, making your visit safer, faster, and easier than ever before. Here's how digital X-rays at Sulfaro Family Dentistry work. A small camera is placed into the patient's mouth, and an image pops up immediately on a nearby computer screen. You and your dentist or hygenist look at the images on a large LCD monitor, in real time, and make decisions about your dental health. Images are then stored on our computer at Sulfaro Family Dentistry for easy retrieval when needed.» Wand Anesthesia
In December 1997, a new device was introduced to the dental profession that revolutionized the way dental injections were given. This device is called The Wand™. It provides extra comfort to our patients by utilizing an on-board microprocessor, which guides the anesthetic flow rate when an injection is given. It's a misconception that the pain from dental injections is from the stick of the needle - the discomfort that patients usually experience is from the anesthesia being pushed into the tissue. With The Wand™, we can automatically compensate for different tissue densities depending on where we are injecting and the anesthetic itself is delivered at a constant pressure and volume so that the injection itself is hardly felt. To further aide in your comfort, The Wand™ also provides an additional flow of anesthetic ahead of the actual needle decreasing any other discomfort associated with dental injections.More than just offering a more precise and consistent method of delivering the injection, patients who use The Wand™ experience a quicker onset of the anesthesia which is more effective and fades more quickly. This means that the uncomfortable and lingering numbness often experienced with traditional anesthesia fades quickly so you can speak comfortably and smile easy.
» Diagnodent
Diagnodent is a laser technology that scans your teeth with harmless pulse of light. When a cavity is present, flourescent light of a different wavelength bounces back to the sensor, which is translated to a numerical digital read-out. In general, the higher the number, the greater amount of decay in the tooth. When a cavity is present, the Diagnodent also produces an audible signal. With the Diagnodent, we can now detect cavities smaller than the tip of a dental explorer. This is especially important because with the increased use of fluoride and the presence of fluoride in drinking water, the tooth enamel is less prone to cavities. However, cavities can still form at the base of the fissures on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These tear-drop shaped cavities are very hard to detect with a dental explorer. The Diagnodent helps us locate these cavities, and in addition it allows monitoring of the cavities' progression.
